Those programs mentioned make it very simple. It won’t perform the way you need it to for very long unless you get knowledgeable about how software and hardware work together. My advice is learn how it all works so you can get the most out of your system, and keep it up to date so you won’t get any issues any time soon.
I personally find it necessary because of the profiles you can set up to control when your computer uses boost, how well it switches between the iGPU and dGPU (for battery purposes) and when you want it to be silent, it will turn off all the fans at the expense of any gaming performance I.e when you’re in an office, coffee shop, or at home browsing or completing typical desktop work. If you spend a lot of time plugged in, then you need it to cap your charge to 60 or 80%, if you don’t, then you’ll notice some pretty awful battery wear very soon. AMD is necessary as well, because things that operate on your iGPU depend on it, when drivers or updates don’t happen for it, you’re gonna have problems. Nvidia is essential to control and help provide the regular updates for your GPU, and GPU drivers are in fact an update you need. This give the GPU another 15w-20w to play with without having to flash a different Vbios, and you don't lose much performance in games with that ~1ghz dip in CPU clock speed. HOWEVER if you need more GPU horsepower you should disable boosting when in "Turbo" mode. These settings allow for the most life on battery while maintaining performance and high performance when plugged into a wall. When on battery set it to "silent" and boosting should automatically be disabled. When plugged into a wall set it to "performance" with boosting enabled. Set MSHybrid mode to "optimized," and enable panel power saver. If you want a "one size fits all" setup then here's what I advise: However some of the settings and "profiles" can be confusing on their own, but knowing how and when to use them makes this machine infinitely more customizable and user-friendly than most in it's class.
Armory crate has power over the machine that without it you're relying on the drivers to manage themselves, and they're not great on their own.
